To speak Spanish, you need just two things:

  1. You need to know the words that make up the language (the vocabulary)
  2. You need to know the rules for putting those words together (the grammar)

By the end of the 50 day program, you’ll know everything you need to speak Spanish at a very high level. After that, all it will take is practice to become fluent.

In your journey to learn Spanish, you will be guided every step of the way.

Each day's lesson is broken down into 3 easy steps. Our guided program automatically moves you from one step to the next, and once you've completed step 3, that's it! You’re one day closer to mastering Spanish!

Step 1: Short daily video lessons by a native Spanish speaker

Every day starts with a set of bite-sized video presentations (usually adding up to just 3 or 4 minutes in length) where a native Spanish speaking professor teaches you the grammar concept for the day. He does this using a whiteboard style platform, speaking while typing and handwriting the presentation in real-time so that it feels like you're watching and hearing him teach in an actual classroom.

Step 2: Fun and easy Flashcard Blitz to learn the vocabulary

Flashcards are a tried and true way of memorizing new vocabulary and our Flashcard Blitz game uses them to quickly familiarize you with the day’s vocab list. It first starts with the easy Single Card Blitz for initial exposure to the words--you’ll both see and hear each of the words and reinforce the knowledge by typing them. It then progresses on to the more challenging Three Card Blitz. Students are always amazed at how effective this game is for quickly learning dozens of new Spanish words in one sitting!

Step 3: Hands-on grammar practice with the Grammar Training Lab

It's hard enough learning new grammar and applying the rules without also getting hung up on the vocabulary! Our grammar training lab allows you to drag and drop words to construct sentences. You don't have to know the vocabulary off the top of your head, but you will definitely need to know the grammar--how to conjugate the verbs, what pronouns and articles to use, matching the adjectives to agree with their nouns, and the other little details involved in properly constructing sentences in Spanish. These exercises incorporate recently learned vocabulary to reinforce what you practiced in Step 2!

You're done! Move on to the next day.

By the time you complete Steps 1 through 3, you should be fairly comfortable with the day's vocabulary and grammar. At this point, you will be presented with some optional activities to further practice what you've learned, or if you're in a rush, you can move right on to the next day's lesson!

Optional activities include a typed grammar quiz (no dragging and dropping here--you have to apply the grammar concepts and vocabulary and form complete answers from scratch!), relevant articles to increase your grammar expertise, crossword puzzles to practice the vocabulary, and much more!

As you can see, with our highly structured program, learning just a little bit each day really adds up!

By the end of Day 20, you will be able to fully express yourself in the present tense, limited only by your vocabulary.

By the end of Day 33, you will officially be an intermediate level Spanish student, capable of speaking of the past, the present and the future. At this point, as long as you carry a dictionary with you, you could travel to any Spanish-speaking country and express any idea you desire, although not everything you say would be 100% grammatically correct.

By the end of Day 50, you will have a large vocabulary and will be capable of speaking perfect Spanish. All you will need is practice to develop your speed and fluency. Supplementary games, articles, and other activities within SpanishHour will help you to get that practice.

Master the most difficult concepts in Spanish

Many Spanish professors say that the biggest thing that differentiates a high-level Spanish speaker from an intermediate student is his or her ability to comfortably and correctly use the subjunctive mood. This is an entire separate set of verb forms that are used to express doubt, conjecture, emotion, and other subjective ideas. You can speak perfectly understandable Spanish without ever learning how to use the subjunctive mood, but knowing how to use it allows you to express yourself with greater precision.

Starting from Day 34, our course focuses heavily on teaching the different uses of the subjunctive mood and incorporates tons of exercises to reinforce the rules and concepts.

By the end of the course, you will have had heavy exposure to all of the most advanced concepts in Spanish grammar.

Develop your Listening Comprehension with pure audio drills

The main idea of SpanishHour's 50 Day Course is that if you learn all of the grammar and vocabulary, all you will need is practice to speak like a native.

That being said, SpanishHour offers various activities that will help you to develop your ability to understand what you are hearing.

Every lesson includes a vocab list with pronunciations of the words, and Flashcard Blitz incorporates audio for thousands of words for you to get used to not only seeing the words, but hearing them as well.

Outside of the framework of the main study course is a database of special listening comprehension drills which lets you listen to short pieces of a conversation and to four possible audio responses--you then choose the appropriate response. These drills come in ten different categories to cover common situations you might find yourself in as a tourist and the vocabulary unique to them; situations include being at the airport, in a restaurant or hotel, out with a friend, renting an apartment, and much more.

Learn Latin-American Spanish with a focus on universally-understood vocabulary

Our Spanish course is designed to teach you Spanish that will allow you to be fully understood in any Latin American Spanish-speaking country.

Each South American and Central American country has its own idiosyncrasies and slang, but our selected vocabulary is designed to be as country-neutral as possible. Some of the words you learn may not be commonly used in the country you decide to visit, but will almost certainly be understood. As you spend time in a specific country, you will quickly adapt to their local flavor of Spanish.

You will also have no trouble conversing with people from Spain. There will be some differences in vocabulary and pronunciation, and they may find your use of ustedes instead of vosotros very formal, but you will still be able to carry on high-level conversations without any problems.

Study at your own pace

Each day's activities are designed to take roughly one hour to complete. Depending on your level of Spanish and the difficulty of the particular day's lesson, you may spend more or less time completing a lesson.

You can go as quickly or as slowly as you'd like. Some members complete the first two weeks of the course in just the first couple of days but then slow down once they reach topics they're not as familiar with.
